Tortshack aides the Endangered

September 23, 2005

Tortshack has been working in fine detail with habitat construction, proper nutrition, and exemplary husbandry of Endangered and threatened species of tortoises. We strongly reccommend to educate the public of our Associate non-profit entity; Global Repopulation of Endangered Exotics Non-Profit, that our main goals are divided into two catagories with fine detail. G.R.E.E.N focuses on what is known through the American Zoological and Aquarium Association (AZA) as "Species Survival Plan". The SSP animals are very critically endangered due to habitat loss, pet trade and medicinal purposes.

Geochelone Radiata is one os the most important tortoises that needs assistance in its population not only in the wild but in captivity. Our other main focus in which we currently have adult specimens few having studbook numbers are logged as "Population Management Plans"(AZA). G.R.E.E.N currently has adult species of geochelone Platynota, Geochelone Elegans, and Geochelone Elegans "subspecie relative" the Sri Lanka Star are all under "population Management" Status. G.R.E.E.N is always accepting aid towards these projects in funding purposes for more enclosures or exotic animals of these sort.
